We’re proud to announce that Rita Romaker, a 24-year mortgage industry veteran, joined the AAFMAA Mortgage Services LLC (AMS) team in March 2024 as VP of Operations and will be based out of Addison, TX.
Romaker is an experienced underwriter who is knowledgeable with all loan types, including construction loans, FHA financing, down payment assistance, and most importantly (in our opinion), VA Home Loans. It’s a good thing she has a deep and wide lending background because as VP of Operations, she’ll be overseeing everything we do, from sales and origination functions to reporting and compliance, to help ensure AMS loans are processed with accuracy and professionalism and close on time.

Learning on the Job
At the start of her career, Romaker worked as an operations manager for a manufactured home dealer before moving to a small mortgage company as a loan processor. “I just kind of took to that job and learned everything I could about residential lending from underwriting to how loans are closed,” she says.
VA Loans hold a special place in her heart, she says. “The VA Home Loan is such an important product and I’ve just always had a special place in my heart for Veterans and helping them attain homeownership in the most streamlined, efficient way possible,” she says. “We’re talking about buyers who have served our country. Our role is to serve them and try to give them a great experience working with us. If a loan doesn’t fit right out of the box, our Military Mortgage Advisors, licensed Mortgage Loan Originators, will work with Members to help them make changes so they can qualify and become homeowners. We think that’s what great service is all about,” she explains.

Texas is Home
Romaker was born and raised in Texas and is an ardent hockey and football follower (go Stars!) She lives in North Richland Hills with her husband of 25 years and has two daughters and two cats. She’s a fan of Mexican food, rodeo and hanging by the pool listening to Texas country music. She’s a self-taught quilter and crocheter, and she dabbles in calligraphy.
“I'm just really excited to be here and see what value I can bring to help Members with their mortgage goals,” she says. “I’m looking forward to leveraging what I’ve learned in over two decades in the business to improve processes here for Members.”
